Who can apply to the Trust?

Applications can only be accepted from students at Clydebank High School and St. Peter the Apostle High School who have applied, or are in the process of applying, for entry into the first year of an engineering degree course at the University of Glasgow or the University of Strathclyde.

What engineering courses qualify for a bursary?

All Engineering courses offered by Glasgow and Strathclyde University are eligible.

What is the value of the bursary?

The value of the bursary will be between £2000 and £3000 annually. At the time when the bursary is being awarded the Trust will take into account the financial need and individual circumstances of the candidates.

How many awards will the Trust make each year?

Payment of the bursary in any year will depend on identifying suitably qualified candidates. The intention is that the Trust will issue one bursary each year and a maximum of two may be awarded in exceptional circumstances.

When will the bursary be paid?

The bursary will be paid in two instalments during each year of study. The payments will be made at the start of the academic semesters that is during September and January. Payment of each instalment, after the initial payment, will depend on satisfactory academic progress.

The bursary will be paid for the duration of the course and for the minimum time required to graduate, which is normally a period of four years.

What is the application and award process?

  • Candidates must first submit a form to the Trust applying for a bursary award.

  • Successful applicants will be asked to attend an informal interview with the Trust at their school in mid August.T

  • The final award will be subject to the outcome of that interview, the candidates’ examination results and confirmation of a place on an engineering course at one of the universities.

What is the timetable for the award process?

  • Application forms and guidance notes will be available the Trust website and from each of the schools from January 2024. The closing date for applications to be returned for the academic year 2024-25 is Friday 1st March 2024.

  • Applicants will be informed by letter or email by the end March if they have been successful in securing an interview with the Trust - Interviews will take place mid August.

  • Applicants will be required to inform the Trust on the outcome of their 2024 examination results within three days of receipt.

When will I know if I have been made an award?

Successful candidates will be advised of their bursary award by the 31st August 2024.

What will the interviews consist of?

  • Interviews will be held at each of the high schools with two of the Trustees.  The interview is likely to last about one hour and will cover the candidates’ personal interests and ambitions, academic achievements and aspirations they have for a career in engineering. 

  • It should be stressed that the interview will be informal and candidates should see this as an opportunity to demonstrate their motivation and commitment to undertaking a university degree course in engineering.
